NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Statue of Liberty was evacuated on Wednesday due to a "smoke condition around the elevator," the New York Fire Department said.
"We have a smoke condition around the elevator and the statue's been evacuated and we are on scene," a fire department spokesman said.
No other details were immediately available.
